Life is a Mystery

Two lessons today. The tsunami lessons. 2nd period saw the second lesson in my block of four - the Asian case study. It went better than the first time I tried it last week which is reasurring. However it was interrupted for 20 minutes due to a fire alarm. No wayward science experiments this time just a misplaced foot in the Scottish Country Dancing lesson in the hall. Period 4 gave me the chance to use a mystery game that I created two nights ago. Basically the class were split into groups of four or five and given 24 little bits of evidence. I then told them that they were detectives and that they could solve this real mystery - What caused the tsunami that destroyed the lighthouse on Unimak Island in 1946. The pupils seemed to love group work and started to think about how evidence is gathered and how it can be biased. I thought that such an open activity would be a nightmare to control but the children were so enthralled with the task that no-one had time to misbehave. I am looking forward to continuing this activity with my other classes.

Final task of the day before I left was to ensure that all the preparations were in place for tomorrow's Crit lesson. I am nervous about it but keep reminding myself that this is my very first placement and that I shouldnt get too worried.
