Here we go again!

Well today was the first day at my new school. Where to start? Well arriving this morning through the frost and freezing fog was a strange experience especially as the 'students' could be heard to whisper who's that? as I coasted past them...in my mind it was like something from the excorcist. Anyway I remembered my way down into the Geography department where I met members of the Geography and Modern Studies staff. This included a student teacher from Jordanhill who had studied Geography at Edinburgh University. I observed the first two lessons of the day (fourth year and first year). Interestingly the school does not have a bell to indicate the end of the lessons and the times of the lessons are slightly bizarre as well...hopefully I can get used to these:

  • Period 1 - 8:40 - 9:36
  • Period 2 - 9:36-10:32 etc...

Period 3 had been put aside for a meeting with the Regent. There are 6 student teachers in total this placement (2 English, 1 Modern Studies, 1 Biology and 1 Music). After a brief tour of the school we collected our electronic entrance keys and cashless catering cards and proceeded to observe period 4. Luchtime provided an opportunity to catch my breath and to chat to staff about anything that came to mind. I think my first lesson will be on wednesday....first year map skills....happy memories.

Well I had best get back to work. Oh but I must say this compared to almost 4 hours a 20 minute round trip is already proving useful....I might even get time to sleep on this placement...fingers crossed.
