Cover lessons

When I arrived home last night from the SAGT wordlwise quiz I could collapse safe in the knowledge that I wasnt teaching today. Well by mid way through the first period that plan went out the window. I offered my services to help team teach the lesson...this was good fun and also allowed me to act as a classroom assitant for the poorer students. I then proceeded to observe a higher class, who I will not be teaching, but wanted to observe anyway. It was immediately made clear to me that this was one the ridiculous lessons where Higher and Int 2 are taught at the same time. Needless to say they werent learnign the same topic (Int 2 volcanoes and Higher soils!) so I offered to take the Int 2 class through to another room to watch a video on montserrat and taught them about volanoes. As a geologist it is great to have the ability to engage pupils in anything to do with rocks. The final period of the day before the regent meeting was meant to be another observed lesson. However the teacher, was away and so I offered to teach the class about trade. This was a repeat of a lesson that I taught a day earlier but the natural, unplanned approach yielded much greater results.

All that is left now is planning for monday, marking some first year weather projects and singing in a staff barbershop chorus....dont ask!
