5 out of 6

Today is my busiest day of the week. I am timetabled to teach all 6 periods on a thursday but am still building up to a full timetable so only managed 5 today...still that is one more than I have done before so I am glad to have achieved yet another first.

First period...teaching trade and aid to one of the fourth year classes. This lesson was fine but I did spend most of it wanting something rather bizarre...some talking. All of the pupils are zombie-like in the mornings and fourth years are no exception.

Second period...observation of third years who have started the settlement unit.

Third period...second year settlement. Plenty of activities for the pupils this lesson. They are never happier than when they are doing activities...and I dont blame them. reading and writing gets very dull and so does listening.

Fourth period...first year mapwork tests. Having set the test for my other first year class I did the same today. Separating out the pupils to discourage cheating worked well and having now marked them I am pleased to report that everyone did very well.

Fifth period...other fourth year trade and Aid. Got to show the nuts about trade video...perhaps the cheesiest thing I have ever seen. It makes some really good points but I am afraid that its presentation certainly fell short for these pupils...a bit kid-like.

Sixth period...returnign first year tests and going over answers. With this done we proceeded to some fun activities with maps....this was the last lesson for this class due to the rotation system...a loud 'YES' was heard when they found this out and to our joy an even louder 'oh no' rattled through the classroom when they realised that meant History!

I spent the an hour or so marking some jotters in the base before heading for my bus. Unfortunately the roads were absolutely solid. As I walked home I didn't see a single moving vehicle for 45 minutes...apparently some crashes and breakdowns on or near the Forth Road Bridge created the problem. Oh well tomorrow is the last day before the week long Edinburgh holiday. :)
