World Mapper

I’ve not come across this website ( http://www.sasi.group.shef.ac.uk/worldmapper/index.html) before but when I read about it on Guy Kawasaki blog this morning I could see a few obvious uses in the Geography classroom. All of the maps are really interesting, but I found these two particularly interesting and relevant for population studies – amongst other things the UK’s aging population is very obvious.

This map shows the worldwide distribution of people over 65 years old:

This map show the distribution of children under the age of 15 years old:

Or how about these two maps to show the differences between imports and exports?

The map below shows toy imports:

This map shows toy exports:

Worldmapper maps

I love these maps. I came across them a while ago and have been using them recently while looking at the global clothing trade with S2. I have found that it is a good idea to have the base map (the world by area) to hand as it makes 'reading' the other maps much easier.
