Last day with the Higher class today. I have really enjoyed teaching the class and I hope they will go on to do well in the examination. Although I still remain concerned about a couple of candidates who don’t seem to have started any revision, for any subject?
I met with Angela Hepburn (PT History / Modern Studies) to discuss the Scottish Survey of Achievement study that we are taking part in, along with the rest of the East Lothian schools and a lot of other schools in Scotland. We have managed to identify a time where we can speak to all students that are involved in the study. With the change of timetable and activities week coming up we are going to be incredibility tight for time.
I also spent some of my free time (generated by the lack of S4) creating a resource for a Cold Desert (Tundra) project, similar to the Hot Desert project that I described yesterday. My idea is that in our new S1 and S2 courses the students will complete one activity each year. This way we will be able to monitor any improvement in group work and provide progression within our courses.
In order to make the printed resources more durable I decided to laminate the paper resources. After laminating about 20 sheets of A4 paper (there is something quite therapeutic about laminating?). I noticed that the laminate I was using was to thick and that none of the laminate had actually stuck – what a waste of an hour!
My S3 class in the afternoon were on good form, as I have said previously I enjoy teaching this lively class. Unfortunately in the last 15 minutes of the lesson someone overstepped the mark. In recent weeks this has been a continuous problem, resulting in me placing a number of sanctions and control measures in place. There is a huge gap between the maturity between members of the class, which seems to be mirrored across the whole of S3.
Into John Muir House to discuss the exc-el project. I have enjoyed working on this project over the last session and have been really impressed with the way that community has grown.
