The Duke of Edinburgh Award Expeditions has gone well over the past few days. We departed with about 25 students at midday on Friday and got home at about 7pm on Tuesday night.
In total we had three silver groups out on their assessment and one gold group. The weather was not ideal and the midges were the size of sparrows but the groups were fantastic. They were well organised, well trained, self sufficient and maintained their humour. As members of staff we all commented on how well behaved and how determined the groups were. It was a real privilege to work with such calibre of young people.
Overall it was a great weekend and I even managed to write an un-finished report using PPMS from the post office in Killin (didn’t see you there Brian?)
I have really enjoyed working with the Duke of Edinburgh team at DunbarGrammar School. I don’t know of another school like it for the amount of Duke of Edinburgh opportunities that they offer the pupils. I will miss being involved next year and it has got me wondering is MGS still run their award scheme?
