First entry in the world of Weblogging. Hope my future musings entertain / help / inspire / challenge / inform / provide insight into the life of a probationer in East Lothian.

Tiring week back at school last week - getting up again at 6.30 is hard!

After half-term spent eating Kuchen and drinking Kaffe in Tolstoy’s fave Viennese Café (what a fame-tourist!), back to canteen food (not bad foodage) and East Lothian rain (bad leakages).

Feels good achievement to have been teaching for longer stretch than on any single PGCE placement. Really getting to know strengths and weaknesses of ALL individuals in classes takes time, which is not available on placement.

General consensus suggested an excellent session at Musselburgh Quayside yesterday. I'll defer to David's excellent synopsis of the meeting for giving you the details. Good to hear about the positive approach ELC is taking by celebrating the uniqueness of individual teachers and promoting teaching diversity.

We were given self-evaluation activities which will be very useful for continually reflecting on own teaching practice. These can be found on Don's Blog. As a group, it was empowering to be asked to be part of the council education dept. decision making process.

Pleased to find myself voluntarily thinking about educational theory and my own practice in my own time! Easier now to start to make links between educational ideas and practice, something which was much more difficult in the lecture hall at Moray House.

Lots of marking this weekend in front of Sportscene! Nevertheless, going home on a high. A fire drill disrupted the last period – but I had to praise my S3 to the hilt for coming straight back after the disruption and working silently. Maybe the fear of a test next week helped!
