Had a very constructive meeting yesterday with Andrew James from the East Lothian Museums Service. DGS already have several of their WW1 exhibits on loan, which the History club have used to create a superb display in the school foyer. They really enjoyed selecting the objects and the silent, delicate, process involved when handling them with museum gloves.
We are arranging to obtain some Roman and Celtic artefacts or replicas to run as a display after this exhibit. East Lothian and this area in particular is a hotbed of ancient history, especially with Traprain Law being so prominent
Hopefully we can get more pupils involved in the History Club – a task for me next week!
Andrew and I also discussed future outings to Prestongrange Industrial Museum and in particular developing a project to add to the existing audio tours using History Club or S3 course pupils. Ollie has already posted on the potential for pod-casting and we chatted recently about this project being an ideal opportunity to try it out.
Rushed home to drop in and help out in the Wednesday club at the Citadel Youth Centre where I've volunteered for nigh on 2 years. They are looking for volunteers in the Leith area so pop along. It's a great place and very rewarding to be part of - I've thought about dropping it, now I'm out in Dunbar, but I enjoy it too much to give up easily. Tonight we made Tomato soup (badly) and I refereed a game of UniHoc....(very badly!)
