Crit Lesson

Had no S4 today (on Work Experience) so spent morning thinking about my crit with 1C2 and Paul (Head Teacher at DGS). Although he is very approachable, I still felt nervous prior to the lesson and struggled to settle myself down! He commented later that he’d never seen me looking so flustered!! Put it down to boss-in-room syndrome!!

Anyhow, I got on with it and the lesson went well, although I was focusing too much on running a tight ship and teaching direct. This was reflected in Paul’s positive feedback. I need to make the next step from successfully directing and controlling a class to taking more risks, even if they don’t succeed. The key may be to never get satisfied with one or two ways of teaching, but try as many as possible.

Also need to focus on becoming a faster teacher using greater pace, look again at getting greater differentiation into activities. Moreover, feedback made me realise that I rarely tell the class what they will be doing next time, especially with S1 as I’m unfairly assuming they will forget by next week anyway!

These focus points have been added into my plan – so lots to work on for the next wee while!
