Single Status (quo) again

Over the past couple of days I had been attempting to contact the Joint Unions single status / job evaluation "hotline" run by the council. I hadnt been able to get through and so was put through to Lisa in personnel whom I left a message for. Lisa called first thing this morning and we had a chat about some issues regarding single status. After ranting on for about half and hour (sorry Lisa) and managing to get a few things off my chest I tried the number for the Union "hotline" again and this time I got through, unfortunately it was someone in corporate communications. The number listed on the councils intranet had been a typo and the person whose phone it was had been on holiday all week !!

I did eventually get in touch with Unison and they informed me that negotiations were still ongoing and it would be unlikely that staff would be informed of their new pay and grading this month as was expected. What in effect this means is that it could still go on for months. In the case of Unison, when an agreement is finally reached between the council and the unions it will then have to be approved by its national committee before being passed back for the membership to vote on. I am not holding my breath, but then again the process has been ongoing for around seven years and who knows, it could go on for another seven. Maybe by the time its fully resolved everyone will have forgotten why it was done in the first place.

Still combating the heat here but luckily no freezers decided to switch themselves off today. Combated the heat last night by meeting Alan Coady for a cold drink. We managed to solve the problems of the world (again), so if anyone wants any advice, and we can remember any of our great ideas you will find that our rates are very reasonable.
