The beginning of the end

Today was the first day of my last week. I am extremely sad to have to leave. All the staff have been so friendly and helpful and on the whole the children have been a joy to teach. Four lessons though to keep me busy today. First lesson was a Tsunami exercise with my second year class (my shadow class). Unfortunately some of the pupils are too immature to handle the mystery that I have used with my other classes so an alternative exercise was set up. Many engaged with the idea and designed a working Tsunami warning system.
After first break came the higher set that I am taking for my Observed lesson tomorrow. Whilst slightly chatty they did manage to complete the methods of wind and water erosion allowing us to start the first case study of the Dust Bowl tomorrow. Immediately after them was one of my first year classes. This lesson saw a continuation from last week, working with Atlases and the collection of their Country Factfile homeworks. (I have been pleased with the results of this homework and the walls outside the classrooms are beginning to show just how much work the pupils and I have put in to create our display.)
At lunch I was able to give Ed Offer a quick look at the SmartBoard. Just like me he is fascinated by the technology and had no fear at jumping and having a play.
Final lesson of the day my other Higher set. I have managed to convince them that I am an exchange student from South Africa. (Obviously not integral to the topic but a good way of letting them relax during what is a very writing intensive lesson).
