Shadow Study - Day 2

Today provided yet another chance to follow my increasingly paranoid second year class. Having helped Ollie to move some more furniture I proceeded to class registration where I handed out a questionnaire for each pupil to fill in. WIth this done it was on to the first lesson of the day - German. I can speak a total of 12 german words (the numbers 1-10, bless you, and goodbye...hardly an impressive vocabulary). The class however showed off their language abilities very well, telling jokes and writing short plays. In between this lesson and English I connected with some of the pupils as I became "cool"! I can recite all of Santa's reindeer in less than 3 seconds. For some reason this proved to be fascinating and eased what was becoming a slightly odd silence between lessons as I followed the children through the corridors.

During first break I had a quick conversation with Derek Simpson about the placement system and my shadow study before moving on to the science classrooms. Again another completely different learning environment as half the class went to the library to work. Fourth period and it was music time. The class were busy rehearsing for the school music concert next week. The song that this class is singing is one of my favourites so I couldnt help but sing along.

Fifth period saw the second English lesson of the day. This is an odd arrangement but the children seem to be happy enough. A slight misreading of the script meant that the whole class, myself and their teacher were slightly taken aback when it was suggested that a character in Macbeth was killed by a poisonous trifle! Still it was nice to see the pupils enjoying themselves when it came to literature. Final lesson of the day was my favourite, P.E. Scottish country dancing was today's activity and I was amazed by just how skilled the class were. It was extremely hard to stand at the side of the hall and not to join in.
