First thing today was the citizenship elective. Today's topic was games that can be used in the classroom for the teaching of citizenship issues. Two of the geographers presented the "Trade game" and the entire group loved playing it for the first half of the session. We then went on to play the "Beo game".
More games are arranged for next week...although this sounds like messing about it is really useful at providing practical ideas for the classroom....something the course appears to avoid most of the time as theory is taught. Time for a coffee before I met with the rest of my MD group to discuss what we are presenting on Monday (a 22 minute presentation seems like nothing nowadays). I then stayed in the library working until 5 o'clock when I took a stroll up the road to a Royal Met. Soc. lecture on "air pollution and the public's health". These lectures often provide interesting facts and although the theory and experiments are out of my league the fundamental results are of great interest and its useful to keep in touch with the latest research.
