Another 'final day' at Moray House

Today saw the end of another teaching block at Moray House. In order to hit the ground running on Monday I visited my new school today to get my bearings and to meet the staff. I am very pleased to report that the school looks like a very enjoyable place in which to teach and to learn. Audrey Flynn, my supervising PT, was very friendly and eager to answer any queries that I had. She had already prepared a timetable for me which includes first, second, third and fourth year classes. The increase from last placement in terms of the amount of teaching looks fairly significant when seen on paper but I dont think I am expected to teach all of it straight away. I have immediately noticed two very interesting things. Firstly, there is no Smartboard...which although slightly daunting is a brilliant thing. I know how useful a Smartboard can be but I am looking forward to teaching with a different medium...something which I didnt take full advantage of at DGS. The other thing to strike me was the topics that I will be teaching...Settlement dominates several years and it is great to get my teeth into some human geography.

The other event of the day was to join some of my peers in Moray House for a presentation from the Woodcraft Folk ( http://www.woodcraft.org.uk). This is a group of secondary pupils who are creating an Eco-trailer in order to demonstrate renewable energy sources. The aim is to take the trailer along to mostly primary schools and educate the pupils. Today we played the part of the primary school children and were treated to a very professional presentation full of good ideas. We gave the pupils some feedback on how it could added to and polished but the initiative is solely pupil driven and we were very impressed with the level of dedication shown.

So all that was left was to say a fond fairwell and to wish one another luck in our new schools. Being the sad man that I am I have already added a lot of material to my new placement folder and am getting ready for the new adventure!
