The Next Creative Curve: slingshot or escalator?

Thursday 8th June 2006

John Davitt ( www.newtools.org) gave the key note presentation this morning. I heard John speak at SETT 2004 and he basically gave a watered down version of the same presentation. As always he was very entertaining, although it would have been nice to see a few more examples of his work (I missed the talking sheep and the dog that does the times tables John!)

John also kindly gave each of the conference delegates an electronic copy of his new book ‘New Tools for Learning’. I have had a quick scan through some of the pages and there look like some interesting ideas; I’ll go over the text in more detail when I get a bit more time.

John than introduced two teachers from Northern Ireland who had been involved in some creative animation work with their students. I thought that both animations were excellent. I particularly liked the idea for using figures for students who might not be able to make clay models and the idea of taking photographs of places to build into the set.

Scotland

Hi John, thanks for the message. Yep the sites new since Scotland (I guess you mean SETT 2004?). Glad you like what we are trying to do here in East Lothian, the more points we can get for the string the better! Like the new book by the way, very easy to read and full of lots of clear, common sense advice. Ollie

Missing dog and sheep

Sorry about the sheep omission Ollie I'll make sure to get it there next time - to tell you the truth I was a bit rushed. Great resource site this and good lively debate and cataloging - String 1 Stone 0 (new since Scotland?)
good luck in the new job John
