EWOC Conference Write Up: Day 3 Wednesday 5th July 2006.

Today’s session kicked off with Malcolm Walker from the Royal Metrological Society outlining the society’s education strategy. The two flagship projects of the society are:

Both projects are excellent and I participated in Matlink with students while at KnoxAcademy. We need to find a way to get more East Lothian Schools participating in this type of project, in particular the primary schools.

Our presentation followed Malcolm’s and it seemed to be well received by the audience. George gave an outline to the Scottish Curriculum and how teacher secondment fitted in, Viki talked about her experience of writing The Science of the Weather Book and I briefly talked about innovative ways to teach the weather including a brief intro to the use of web 2.0 (weather blogs, weather podcasts etc..). During the breaks and lunch that followed we were swamped with people asking us more questions about our work. We sold out of books, demonstrated GEOCASTS in more detail, talked about blogs and made a lot of new friends.

An afternoon fieldtrip took us to the FISKE Planetarium where we had an interesting look at the stars through a Native American viewpoint.
