Ashfield School for Girls

Thursday 8th June 2006

I had a great afternoon at Ashfield School for – although it would have been good to have a bit more time at the school. It’s really nice to visit another school as you pick up so much from just walking in through the door (I have idea of a ‘word wall’ stored away at the back of my mind).

The school is an 11-18 all ability school which provides a broad and balanced curriculum at key stage 3 and 4. The school is a specialist school in ICT, it is a Microsoft IT Academy and an Enterprising School. I was instantly impressed by the professionalism and enthusiasm of staff that all worked hard to make our short visit really enjoyable. You can find out more about the school at its award winning website www.ashfieldgirls.org.

During our visit we had some presentations on digital portfolios and the tools within the school website. Digital portfolios are something that I have blogged about before. I was interested to see that the school were using PowerPoint and SE time to complete their portfolios. Digital portfolios are high on my personal agenda as the new ICT co-ordinator at Musselburgh Grammar School. However, I will probably suggest that we use wordpress or type pad to create the portfolios integrated with a flikr account- but I need to give this some more thought.

I really enjoyed the visit to Ashfield and this has been the highlight of the conference for me so far.

Your visit

As principal of Ashfield, it was great to read that you had enjoyed your visit and found it interesting. I know your part of the world quite well as I have a friend and colleague who lives in Aberlady. Good luck with your work on developing digital portfolios etc.
