Emergency First Aid in schools

Have been attending an emergency First aid course run by the Local Authority Outdoor Ed dept. So far it’s been excellent with a good atmosphere among participants. There is no test at the end, which makes it seem more practical and less demanding. Having said that, there is always the pressure in the back of your mind that you need to learn this for any future emergency situations.

I think Emergency First Aid should be taught as part of Teacher Training. Certainly, there is great potential for every teacher be in an emergency situation, be it a pupil in class or on an excursion, or with colleagues, relatives, or simply strangers in the street. Being a person who is able to prevent someone from dying by using basic procedures is a daunting prospect, but we should all be thinking about it.
