Determined to succeed

In reference to the previous blog, a Podcasting project fits nicely into the Determined to Succeed initiative, which Julia Robertson presented to us probationers on Tuesday. Julia's presentations are always fun and active ( we were building towers from jelly-babies and pasta!), however in this case I really was too tired at 4-6pm to get overly-enthused about the session. The initiative seems to be a very holistic thing – aiming to develop many aspects of a young-person’s development. I see a key aim to be promoting collaborative learning for pupils to provide them with key skills for the future.

We’re already designing a team-task to design a Cold-War board game to go into a new unit. The emphasis will be on (hopefully) getting the team and individuals to reflect on their actions using progress charts and questionnaire sheets.

The initiative also fits in with ideas for experiential learning (learning from experience) which I focused on for my Professional Project (copies on request!).

I have been tasked with collating info for History/Modern studies with a view to making some bids for funding. Ideas like Podcasting, boardgames, group-poster work, and debating clubs will all go in for consideration.
