NBHS Music Camp

Enjoying a relaxing weekend after a bustling 48 hours in Loaningdale, Biggar. Each ensemble at the camp had a few rehearsals, culminating in an informal concert for one another on Friday morning. The ensembles featured were: chorale, orchestra; brass band; jazz band; percussion ensemble; wind band; string group; a selection of pianists and guitar ensembles. Many pupils were members of more than one group.
The event coincided with
A Song For Peace and the 99 pupils on site congregated to play or sing in this event.
An extra musical event was provided by James Waters (father of two pupils at the camp) who took members of the chorale (and any other interested members of staff) through some unaccompanied choral sight-singing. His excellent musicianship together with a racy and humorous delivery kept everyone on their toes at the end of a long day.
On the social front, Thursday night featured a fantastic infamous NBHS enthusiasm on the floor to the sounds of the Lismore Ceilidh Band. The dance floor was filled from the first notes of the opening Gay Gordons to the dying notes of Auld Lang Syne.
I’m about to leave for a guitar recital by former Knox pupil
Simon Thacker . For those on the lookout for crossover gigs, Simon also features in Camera Ritmata – a jazz based outfit on Sunday 10 Dec courtesy of Haddington Concert Society. This event also features former Knox pupil
Paul Kirby.
