Conference - Outdoor Connections

Left home at 5.50am to get to Dundee for the conference. Edinburgh bypass was clogged at 6.30am!! Got to Dundee for 9.00am. My presentation seemed to go down reasonably well. I had lunch with Heather Reid "BBC's Heather the Weather", who was chairing the event; Bernard McLeary, Chief Exec' Learning and Teaching Scotland ;and Colin Brown, who is heading up the Curriculum for Excellence programme for the Scottish Executive. Also met some "old" chums - John Hall and Andy Wishart from Scottish Borders and Colin Tucker from Earlston High School and Ally Morgan, my former teaching tutor - 63 and looks younger than me!

Couldn't stay for the afternoon session as I had to be back for the Prestonpans School Board cluster meeting. The evening event went well and these sessions seem to be very worthwhile. One particular point of note - only one person had heard of the A Curriculum for Excellence

Conference - Outdoor Connections

As the conference organiser I would like to thank Don for his input and Blue Sky thinking (that's the East coast for you). Don's input was particularily inspiring and focused delegates on real lives in real schools and the potential of taking learning outdoors. Many delegates have commented how much they enjoyed his presentation. Thanks again!

Have heard of 'A Curriculum for Excellence' - and noted after the conference we need to revisit it as a staff and also look at Scottish Progressions for more information.

In his summing up speech David Cameron, our former Director of Education, described your input as inspirational & it was the highlight for me. Practical experience backed up by theoretical underpinning, with ideas to be carried forward.

I came away from the conference very enthused with the feeling that Outdoor Education, if it rises to the challenge, is due for a revival. The support is there on high & we need to find further ways to make things happening.

It was also good that East Lothian got favourable mentions from a variety of speakers.

Well done Don

Alastair

Training

I always take the train and bus to travel and reckon it takes less time than the car in the long term. Do you not want to join us Greenies on Scotrail?
