Current Developments in Pupil Support

A number of Short Life Working Groups are currently meeting to develop resources and guidance for schools

Inclusive Practice:Guidelines for Class Teachers - Staged assessment and intervention strategies for pupils with specific additional support needs

This document offers guidance and strategies to support pupils in the classroom. In the original document there are three sections;

ADHD

Dyslexia

Language and Communication Difficulties

New sections covering both Down's Syndrome and Physical Difficulties - these sections are well underway. The Dyslexia material is being revised in line with the new ASL Act and the revised Staged Assessment and Intervention Framework. The remaining two original sections will be updated as soon as it is practical to do so.

The Curricular Development group - secondary subject teachers and support for learning teachers are working on material at Access levels 1 and 2 and also levels A and B for use in S1 and S2. This material will be available for use in schools across East Lothian

Transition Arrangements for Children and young People with Additional Support Needs will soon be available. This policy replaces the "Enhanced Transition Arrangements for Pupils with Severe and Complex Difficulties" and has been updated in line with recent legislation

Individual Pupil Planning - Guidance for teachers on a variety of individual pupil planning formats - Individual Action Plans, Individual Education Plans and Co-ordinated Support Plans

ASL Health - Joint working practices group. Health and education professionals working collabratively to implement the regent legislation
