How do I...? On-line training for Exc-el community members

Exc-el's success depends on every member of the community being able to contribute to the web site. But many are busy people, with limited time for training. That's why we're experimenting with some on-line training materials.

Creating a blog entry
  • Can use the admin interface to log in and navigate to the weblogs folder
  • Can create a basic new blog entry consisting of text only. (This doesn't cover more advanced use, such as uploading and inserting images - it's just to get new bloggers started.)
  • Can publish the new weblog to the web site

  • Can use the Forum Member login to access forums
  • Can create a new Topic for discussion
  • Know about the "Keep me informed" buttons, what they do, and what their current limitations are.

  • Know the effect using "Content structure" box has on performance
  • Know how to use Bookmarks to avoid need to use Content Structure
  • Know how to switch off unused parts of the admin interface to improve response
